A Message From The New Chief of Police -

I’ve been a Police Officer for almost 20 years and have worked for the Muhlenberg Township Police Department since March of 1989. I worked as a Patrol Officer, K-9 handler (6 years), Patrol Sergeant (1998), Community Services Sergeant (1998-2000) and Detective Sergeant (2000-2007.) I am a graduate of the 228th Session of Federal Bureau of Investigation’s National Academy (FBINA).

My family and I have lived in Muhlenberg Township since 1998 and prior to that we lived in Laureldale (1990-1998). I’m a new member of the Muhlenberg Lions Club and have coached several teams for the Muhlenberg Ice Hockey Club over the past few years.

The Police Department is currently going through some changes in personnel assignments and my focus will be providing better service to our community. My hopes for the New Year will be an increase in manpower and extended office hours to make our services more convenient for the residents of Muhlenberg.

As of December 31, 2007, Officer Joel V. Marino is the Police Department’s Community Services Officer. Officer Marino will be responsible for various community related programs and projects and hopes that he can encourage you to contact him for various special events. Please look to our website (http://www.co.berks.pa.us/muhlenbergpd/site/default.asp) for programs and contact information.

I would like to extend my thanks to the current volunteers in our neighborhood watch program (T.O.M.C.A.T.). For those of you who have not yet signed up for the program, please consider volunteering some of your time to help make your community a safer place to live and work.

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome back Officer Andrew J. Barrow to our Traffic Division. Officer Barrow is a Major with the U.S. Army National Guard. Major Barrow served as the Deputy Provost Marshal for the 28th Infantry Division in Iraq. Major Barrow’s last assignment lasted 17 months and we are glad that he is back with us safe and sound. Prior to his deployment to Iraq, Major Barrow was deployed to serve in Afghanistan and Bosnia.

Chief Erik Grunzig
